Fantastic Maneuverability

We own all three R-Series boards.I last claimed the Plez Phez to be my favorite board, but this one takes the cake. I'll ride it in any conditions and it can handle them all. It's extremely maneuverable across the face and the rail engages really well! I usually like to sit far inside and catch waves last second; the board handles each take off with extreme ease. The few times I've paddled from the outside it gets in with no problem. This board is so fun and my new go to! Don't second guess on this and buy it! 5'11" 155 lb

Cool board but came damaged

As many others have said, this is a great option for a fun soft board. However, Almond doesn't package these to protect them well. Nose & tail had some wrapped protection, but the only thing between the rest of the board and the outside world is the cardboard box. My board's box had an open hole on one side, and there was a gash in the foam of the board right there. For any purchase of this amount, you should expect that the shipper protects your purchase at least a little. Pretty disappointed by that.

Almond Surfboards

Hi Shiva, did we get a replacement arranged? As far as the packaging goes, we have experimented with several strategies over the last several years, and the unfortunate reality is sharp punctures to the exterior of the box are very difficult to protect against with cardboard and bubble wrap. I am very sorry about the damage and we will remedy it for you.

Love it!!

Super fun board to ride--was shipped within a week and surfed the day I got it. Love having this to lug around on any day.

New daily driver

I have been surfing the 5’4” R-Series daily for about two weeks in smaller Nor Cal surf, point and beach breaks waist to shoulder high. So far, super fun, gets me into mushy slow waves and does well with late drops into step faced shore pound. Enough float and drive to make the reform on the inside and very durable (we had a rock encounter yesterday). GREAT customer service from Jeff and the team at Almond. Interested to see how it plays in some bigger surf as we get into fall and winter but right now, this is my daily driver. FYI - I am 5’10”, 173lbs

Missed expectations

I think I had the wrong expectations for this type of board. I've used it 3 times in pretty good surf and it just felt very sluggish compared to my other boards (which are all traditional construction PU or EPS). I was excited by the idea of having something more environmentally friendly but I expected similar performance. I think that was partially my mistake for having those expectations but it would be helpful to know upfront, what to expect from the R-Series compared to regular surfboards and what it truly works best for. I could see myself using it for shorebreak. If I could return it I would, but I will likely sell the board to someone looking for something like this.

Almond Surfboards

Hi Carl, sorry to hear that. We've put a lot of energy into trying to replicate the feel of a PU+Fiberglass board into a foamie construction. Surfing is obviously all about the feeling it gives you, so can't fault you if this isn't what you were seeking. That said, if you take a high line and set the rail on the 5'4, you might be surprised how much speed it generates. In either case, all the best. Thanks for the feedback.
